The Tiger Barb can grow to about 7 centimeters long and 3 centimeters wide, although they are often smaller when kept in captivity. Native fish are silver to brownish yellow with four vertical black stripes and red fins and snout.

Tiger barbs are also found in many other parts of Asia. With an average lifespan of 6 years.

They prefer a well-planted tank of at least 100 litre with soft, slightly acidic water. Rocks and driftwood can be added to the aquarium, but leave plenty of space for swimming. The Tiger Barb is a very active fish that may pester or even nip the fins of larger, slower moving fish.

CHERRY BARBS (Barbus Titteya)


The Cherry Barb is much smaller and more passive than Tiger Barbs. They can reach 5 centimeters long and 2 centimeters wide, although they are often smaller when kept in captivity. They have schooling nature and as such should be kept in groups.

They prefer a well-planted tank of at least 100 litre with soft, slightly acidic water. Rocks and driftwood can be added to the aquarium, but leave plenty of space for swimming. The Cherry Barb is a very active fish but is peacful and even timid at times.

The Cherry Barb needs to be fed a variety of foods including vegetables as well as meaty foods. Feed a quality flake food as well as live and frozen foods such as brine shrimp and bloodworms.
